Anne (9 July 1764 - 7 February 1823) is a name associated with intricate and tense subjects, mysterious castles and picturesque landscapes. The English writer became known as one of the founders and masters of the Gothic novel genre. In this biography, we look at key moments in Anne Radcliffe's life and work.

Anne was born in London, England, the fourth child of the family. Her parents were educated and cultured, and this affected her early upbringing. From childhood, she showed an interest in literature and art, as well as nature and travel.

Her education began at a school in Bath and later continued at Rushworth Lodge, an exclusive school for girls. At this school, she developed her skills in drawing and music, and also began to take an interest in literature.

Anne Radcliffe began her literary career as a poet. Her first poems were published in 1787, and she continued to write poetry for several years. However, she became a real success thanks to her novels, especially Gothic.

Anne became famous for her Gothic novels, which became popular at the end of the 18th century. Her novel The Mysteries of Udolpho, published in 1794, is considered one of her greatest works. In this book, she created an atmosphere of incomprehensible mystery, which became a characteristic feature of the Gothic genre.
