John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the eldest son of prominent businessman and politician Joseph Kennedy and his wife Rosa. John received his education at Choate-Rose Private School before attending Princeton University, where he studied public service and diplomacy. He later transferred to Harvard University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1940.
